What big-name performers have you worked with?

I’ve worked with multiplatinum selling songwriter Ron Grimes, Gretchen Wilson, Collin Raye, Laurie Morgan and CNN’s Soledad O’Brien.

Your dad is Phillip Michael Thomas of “Miami Vice.” How has his career helped to inspire yours?

My father has always believed in the power of imagination. I grew up in a world where creativity was encouraged and I could be whatever I wanted to be. I feel when you give children the freedom to create at a very young age it’s something that will stick with them throughout their life. It has stuck with me.

Who was the inspiration for the main character in your novel?

I wrote Harlow to discover myself. Seemingly, who I am is what my environment has sculpted me to be so the inspiration for Harlow, the character, was that symbiosis of being the story of humankind and the ‘me’ which individuated from it. Harlow is also very close to my heart because once I began writing the novel I became the character. This book that people are reading — I lived it. And so it’s quite wonderful when people say things like, “this is a fascinating tale” and “‘it’s beautifully written.”

Harlow and I have live parallel lives in that I was born to the silver spoon and grew up in a bubble in the creative utopia my parents created as [a] home. Harlow was born to the silver, raised in the dystopia of intolerant 1930’s England, [and] confined to the castle her father created as [a] home. Writing Harlow has opened my eyes to the resiliency of the human spirit and the depths of true love. It’s been like painting a mirror. I hope in reading the novel, rolling out readers will also discover their own reflections.

Who are your top five favorite female country singers of all time?

Loretta Lynn

Dolly Parton

Patsy Cline

Linda Ronstadt

Tammy Wynnette

What projects are you working on that our readers should know about?

I’m currently writing HART (Book 2 of the Harlow Trilogy). I’m preparing for my concert at TBAAL Jan. 27 and 28, and a concert at the House of Blues on Feb. 25.

Why is giving back so important to you?

I feel the concept of giving back is a misnomer when one recognizes the world as a macrocosm of oneself. We’re all born to a planet of one of the rarest capacities that we know of in this universe and that is life. As you may discover in nature, every living creature must be nurtured [and] loved.  Everything we do contributes to the global consciousness of the human race. I wonder if we understand just how important we are to each other’s survival. On my blog I highlight a “Charity of the Week’ where I share a new charity hoping to get people more involved.  Perhaps, the human race will mature to a point where “giving back” is seen as natural to our survival as love or drinking water.
