During his three-hour long Twitter rant in the wee hours of Jan. 5, Kanye West dropped some pretty big news when he revealed that he was in talks to begin working on a long-delayed live-action film adaptation for “The Jetsons” cartoon.
“I was just discussing becoming the creative director for the Jetson movie,” West tweeted.
Now, producers for the upcoming film have confirmed that they are indeed interested in having West come on board to help create the film.
“Kanye’s always been a Jetsons fan, I think because he’s so into design and he loves the design aspects,” said producer Denise Di Novi to MTV News. “So we had a fun brainstorming conversation.”
According to Di Novi, West met the producers after expressing interest in working on the film.
During his long Twitter rant, West revealed that he was insulted by an off-hand comment from one of the producers during the call.
“Someone on the call yelled out … you should do a Jetsons tour!” he tweeted. “This just happened a few hours ago. I was very insulted, of course, because for anyone that’s seen the Watch the Throne Tour … Or Coachella or Glow in the Dark or Runaway … you know I have real ideas.”
However, Di Novi says that the comment was simply a joke and never intended to insult West.
“We were just kind of joking about that,” said Di Novi. “I don’t know if he would want to do that, but it was just a fun comment.”
Insults aside, Di Novi says it’s still unclear if West will sign on as a creative director or not.
“He was going to think about it more and see if he got inspired visually,” she said. “He’s a very visual artist.”
If West does sign on as creative director, his creative flair and penchant for dynamic visuals will no doubt make The Jetsons one of the most creative and visually stunning live-action adaptations we’ve seen.
