Lil Mo, Jermaine Dupri’s Artist, Soul 4 Real Perform at ATL Live on the Park Season Finale
Fans of the popular music showcase ATL Live on the Park were treated to an evening of real music with roof-rattling vocals. In spite of the incessant rain, true music fans showed up to support soulful newcomers Luke James (Island Def Jam Recording artist) and Brandon Hines (Jermaine Dupri’s and Revel Records’ artist).
ATL Live’s promoters, Shanti Das and Marlon Nichols, paid homage to the late rapper Heavy D at their 2011 season finale. This “Soul Train” edition saw the re-emergence of the ’90s favorite R&B group Soul 4 Real, who were formerly signed to Uptown Records and produced and made famous by the “Overweight Lover” himself. They performed a few of their hits, including “Candy Rain” and an a cappella tribute to Heavy.
Lil Mo’ raised the roof on the tent with her passionate vocals and lyrics — brought up in the church, she gave us a little hemming and hawing too. Lil Mo’s past travails haven’t slowed her or her band’s touring ambitions and momentum. The independent artist says she enjoys “cashing checks” written in her name. She brought us to our feet — with our hands waving in the air — when she broke out with her hit, “Superwoman.”
