Lil Wayne is a human being. But does Cash Money care?

Lil Wayne has gone home from Cedars-Sinai Medical Center after what had to be a terrifying week for the rapper. The YMCMB star was rushed to the hospital last Tuesday after suffering from a series of seizures. He remained in intensive care for several days. Over the course of the ordeal, varying reports surfaced as to the severity of his health scare and the cause of his seizures. There were stories about medically-induced comas, last rites being read and codeine binges showing up all over entertainment media.

As the public and media tried to determine exactly what was going on, Wayne’s associates seemed most preoccupied with downplaying the situation. Young Money artist and president Mack Maine blasted entertainment news site TMZ for reporting that Wayne was near death, and Cash Money Records CEO Bryan “Birdman” Williams made it sound like Wayne was just exhausted and needed a break, nothing more. “To me, honestly, (the seizure’s) just come (from) his work ethics,” he told radio host Angie Martinez. “He works very hard to show how much dedication he gives to his music and to his fans.  He’s trying to accomplish in life. It had nothing to do with drugs.”

After leaving the hospital, Weezy himself tweeted some encouraging words out to his fans that seemed to indicate he was doing fine.

“Watching Highly Questionable on ESPN2 & Papi got me kry’n laughing in dis b—h,” Wayne tweeted.

“I’m feeling a lot better and again thk u all for ur love and prayers,” he added. “It was truly felt…pause”

While Wayne and his representatives seem to be focused on brushing off this latest “set-back,” the uncomfortable truth is that 30 year olds don’t have seizures solely based on exhaustion. And if someone is in a medical facility’s intensive care unit for a full week, it’s not because they just had a little health-related slip-up–something very serious happened here. It would behoove all involved to treat it seriously.
