Mary J. Blige Brings Life Back to Hip Hop and R&B and a Gang of Celebrities Along For the Ride

Are you ready to come back to the music we all fell in love with?

Mary J. Blige’s 10th studio release “My Life II…The Journey Continues (Act I)” is everything you’d expect it to be and a little more.

If you were looking for Mary J Blige to try something new and use some auto tune you won’t find it here! Old and new Mary J fans alike will love this this album. Collaborating with great people such as Nas, Rick Ross, Drake, Beyonce, and Busta Rhymes, definitely gave My Life II: the Journey Continues a new vibe.  Although she did work with a lot of new yet influential artists out  now, Mary stays true to her hip hop soul.  It is very refreshing to see an artist who has paved her own lane in the industry, hold tight to her flavor while trying to reach a younger market.

A few blasts from the pasts made it onto the album as well. Diddy made an appearance in the Intro where the two reflect over My Life Part I, and speak on the direction that this album will go in:

“It’s not a competitor. It’s a sequel. In a extension of how far we’ve come… Not saying that pain doesn’t exist no more in our life, but now we understand how to navigate.”

Mid way through the album Mary also took time out and ‘paid homage’  to her idol, Chaka Khan, covering her hit “Ain’t Nobody.”

Working with producers such as Rico Love, Tricky Stewart, and Darkchild, Mary didn’t hold anything back on showing how much she has evolved from My Life Part I.  Her message is a lot stronger and confident, her voice still produces tears.

My Life Part II has a lot of great love songs, but there are a few songs that the ‘heartbroken Mary’ fans will enjoy as well. This is definitely a great cd to add to the Valentines’ Day celebrations.

Top 3 Spins: “25/8” , “No Condition”, “Love a Woman” feat. Beyonce
