Hip-hop’s greatest group of all time may finally end their five-year hiatus. According to a report by Hiphopwired, OutKast will release a new album at the beginning of 2012.

The duo’s last album was 2006’s Idlewild, and it served as the soundtrack to their debut film of the same name. The album failed to live up to the high expectations that were set by their previous albums. Aquemini became a certified hip-hop classic. Stankonia introduced the group to a broader audience; and Speakerboxxx/The Love Below sold over 10 million records.

Since Idlewild’s release, Andre 3000 and Big Boi have ventured into different areas within entertainment. Big Boi co-starred in the film ATL and released his solo debut Sir Lucious Left Foot: The Son of Chico Dusty. Although Andre 3000 has yet to release a solo album, he appeared in several movies and created the “Class of 3000″ cartoon series in 2007.

Diehard OutKast fans are craving a new album from the group, but there is good reason for them to be skeptical. Similar to Dr. Dre’s Detox, several release dates have been issued without there being a definitive release. –amir shaw
