Questlove Covers Nicki Minaj’s ‘Super Bass’ With Karmin

It goes without saying that in the world of music, snagging a collaboration with The Roots drummer and mastermind Questlove is sure to garner buzzworthy attention. And YouTube’s latest singing sensation, music duo Karmin, who’ve made a name for themselves covering popular hip-hop tracks, have done just that by teaming up with Questlove for their latest video, a cover of rapper Nicki Minaj’s “Super Bass.”

In the video, Karmin’s female vocalist, Amy Heidermann, channels Mianj’s Barbie-Gone-‘Hood lyrical skills into a sassy and ultimately entertaining delivery that rivals the attitude and charm of the Pink Friday rapper herself.

Besides Heidermann’s impressive rhyming skills and fellow vocalist Nick Noonan’s enthusiastic piano playing, the jam session gets a boost from Questlove and fellow The Roots member, guitarist Owen Biddle, who appear on camera a minute into the video, adding a dose of hipster flair (as well as Questlove’s trademark Afro pick) to the video.

This isn’t the first time that Karmin and The Roots have come together for a performance. Last month, Karmin joined The Roots onstage at Tufts University as they performed the duo’s wildly popular cover of Chris Brown, Busta Rhymes and Lil Wayne’s “Look At Me Now,” which has received over 18 million hits on YouTube.

Now that Karmin has Questlove and The Roots applauding their skills and even teaming up with them, we’re intrigued to see what’s up next for this group and when the next collaboration will be.
