Rick Ross Reveals Cause of Seizures

Rick Ross had hip-hop fans across the globe worried last month when he suffered two seizures in one day. Now, after weeks of recovery, Ross seems to be in better health and during a visit to BET’s “106 & Park” on Nov. 1, the Maybach Music boss revealed to fans exactly what caused his medical emergencies.

Speaking to show hosts Rocsi and Terrence J, Ross recalled the first of two seizures that he experienced on Oct. 14 and explained that he mistakenly underestimated the severity of the seizure.

“What it was was I was going about my business as every day. I boarded a flight, and on the flight, I had a seizure and when I snapped out of it, they told me what had happened. I was like, you buggin’, call a jet, we finna keep it moving,” explained Ross. “Because I understand me growing up and hearing about seizures, they can be violent, you bust vessels and bite your tongue up and this and that and in my case, it wasn’t none of that. I felt a little worn out, but I felt I could keep going and that’s what it was.”

As Ross explained, after suffering a second seizure later in the same day, he finally learned what was causing his seizures when a doctor explained to him that his health was failing because of sleep deprivation.

“I boarded a jet and I had another seizure, and when I snapped out of that one, I woke up in front of a doctor and he asked me basically, ‘When was the last time you slept eight hours?’ and I said ‘It had to at least been five years,’” said Ross. “Being the fastest growing label in the game, it comes with a lot of sacrifices. And in my case, it was sleep. I would get two hours of sleep and keep moving, me being a hustler. And that has to stop.”

Ross continued, “I came back totally healthy. It was a case of me not getting enough rest, not getting enough sleep.”

During the interview, Ross also revealed that he would be collaborating with another one of hip-hop’s hardest working emcees, Jay-Z.

Now, that Ross has finally gotten his medical wake up call, hopefully, both he and Rihanna, who was recently hospitalized for the flu and exhaustion, will show as much concern for their health as they do their music. –nicholas robinson
