In the last few weeks, controversial singer Chris Brown has seen more than a few noteworthy celebrities come to his defense concerning his blowup at ABC studios last month. And now, to the surprise of many, Brown can add Rosie O’Donnell to his list of supporters after the former “The View” co-host defended Brown on her Sirius XM radio show “Rosie Radio,” claiming his detractors are racist.
“I just don’t know why this kid seems to be held to a different standard than anyone else,” O’Donnell said.
When asked by the show’s executive producer if she thought there was a racial aspect to Brown’s long-standing media ordeal, O’Donnell explained, “I totally think there is, and I also think it’s why he felt he was safer with Robin Roberts [who is also African-American].”
O’Donnell also explained on her show that she felt “mildly angry” at Roberts while watching her “Good Morning America” interview with Brown.
After the show’s broadcast, O’Donnell took to Twitter to respond to criticism of her comments and Brown and further defend him.
“He was held accountable – he did his service – the judge commended him – he grew up in a violent home – he is only 21,” tweeted O’Donnell, adding, “I have compassion for both he and rihanna – it is not a simple discussion – layers n layers. He is a victim too.”
