Jamaican singer Sean Kingston almost met a tragic end in May, when he was involved in near-fatal Jet Ski crash in Miami. Now, after enduring a miraculous recovery, Kingston has opened up to MTV News correspondent Sway Calloway about the crash and revealed that things were far more dire than they seemed.
“I’m doing good. I’m feeling great. I’m excited. I’m happy,” said Kingston. “A lot of people don’t know it was a deeper situation. I had open heart surgery and I had two other surgeries; it was a life-or-death situation.”
According to Kingston, just as doctors were about to release him from the hospital for his injuries, it was discovered that the “Beautiful Girls” singer was suffering from a previously undiagnosed heart condition and Kingston was rushed to surgery.
“They were gonna send me home, but then I had felt a pain in my left chest, and I told my mom,” he explained. “They they did a lot of scans on me, [and] they said I couldn’t leave.”
During surgery, it was discovered that Kingston’s aorta had torn and that his chest had filled with blood. Kingston subsequently endured several more surgeries to mend his condition and now the singer says that he’s fully recovered from his ordeal.
“I’m 100 percent right now,” he said. “I’ve been in the house chilling, about to start work on my new album. I got L.A. Reid now as my new president. I got a story to tell now.”
Despite nearly losing his life, Kingston explains that from his tragedy, he’s learned to cherish his life and his relationship with God.
“What the accident basically taught me is, in life, you have to count your blessings,” he said. “You just got to keep God present at all times and think about the consequences.” –nicholas robinson
