Soulja Boy to Cash Money? The label's 5 most bizarre signings

Here we go again.

Roughly a year after Soulja Boy had fans and media speculating that he was about to join Bryan “Birdman” Williams’ Cash Money Records label, there has been a new wrinkle in the long-dormant story. In 2012, when it was assumed that Birdman was trying to nab the Atlanta rapper, he quickly shot down any hype surrounding a potential signing.

But a Birdman tweet from March 12 reignited buzz that there is a  chance that the two parties could be joining forces.

“S/O. that lil homey@souljaboy Realn—a do Real thangs. RichGang YMCMB,” Birdman tweeted. And of course, the public took note of the “RichGang” reference. Soulja Boy has recently gotten a “Rich Gang” tattoo on his face.

It resembles Birdman’s.

Additionally, Soulja Boy was spotted hanging with Lil Wayne in Miami this past weekend.

The initial speculation began last year when Soulja Boy brought up the fact that he’d had talks with Birdman and Slim Williams about YMCMB. “I met with Baby and Slim down in Miami,” Soulja said at the time. “He’s trying to get me to come over to Cash Money … I still got paperwork with Interscope Records, so I’m just trying to figure out what I’ma do. I got a lot of great options on the table — I’ve been a fan of Cash Money since I was young. I’ve been listening to Birdman’s music since I was growing up. I would have never thought.”

That statement prompted Birdman to dismiss any notion that he was attempting to woo Soulja Boy over to his label.

“YMCMB busine$$ real talk.I neva tried 2 sign n0b0dy thts already sign 2 s0meb0dy.we d0nt r0ck like tht,” he tweeted. “I neva tried 2 sign s0ulja.but I respect tha lil h0mey wrk keep getn it$$$$”

Soulja Boy’s career appears to be at something of a standstill, so would he be a top priority for Cash Money? Here are five other not-exactly-hot artists the label signed over the years …
