‘The Game’s’ Pooch Hall and Rapper Consequence Talk Upcoming Album, TV Show
After leaving BET’s popular show “The Game,” “Pooch” Hall has decided to go the Will Smith route and team up with former Kanye West rapper protege Consequence. Their first single “Somethin’ Light” was released early last month and has created some buzz as “Pooch” holds his own with the veteran rapper Consequence. The two sat down with Rolling out to talk on their upcoming collabo project, new TV show, and more.
How did you two come together?
Pooch Hall: It’s like when Roscoe decided that he needed a restaurant with chicken and waffles, everyone was like, “What?” But when you put them together it works and it became a phenom. I think you have to look at us as two talents that came together to create art. and I’m excited.
Consequence: We met during our interviews with Sirius Radio and we kept in touch and eventually got in the studio and it was like lightning in a bottle. From there we started promoting across the country and the responses have been overwhelmingly positive.
Actors crossing over into hip-hop is rare territory. You trying to make history?
Pooch: If it wasn’t going to make history, it wouldn’t make sense.
Consequence: He takes his craft extremely seriously, almost as much as I do. We definitely have big things planned.
What is this collaboration going to become?
Consequence: We’re working on Pooch’s first full-length rap album and also we’re going to cross promote lots of things to keep our fan base happy.
Pooch: I think when you are blessed and given a certain talent it’s almost [criminal] to not do something with it. Rapping for me is more about being entertaining and giving something back to the fans. I want people to say, “there goes Pooch holding his own with Consequence, Rick Ross, and Drake.”
What can people expect from the show?
Consequence: Twenty or 30 minutes of a blast. We get a lot of ladies involved in the show and Pooch does his thing with carrying 19 girls across the dance floor with him [laughs]. That’s what music’s about; having fun.
Pooch: Despite all the rumors, I plan on continuing to work with BET for my show. I feel where I’m at as an individual and a brand it almost doesn’t make any sense for them not to work with me.
