Sexy: to be seductive, raunchy and enticing; sexually attractive and desirable

Racy: indelicate; suggestively risqué

We live in a society where sex sells everything. If it’s not sexy, people tune out, especially in the music world. Music is supposed to speak to your mind, body and soul. However, sex seems to be the only thing on some people’s mind. Artists nowadays take being sexy to a whole new level. As artists evolve, their music and cover art must do so as well, and appeal to their fans. Does sex overshadow an artist’s music? This question often enters my mind as I’ve observed sex becoming some artist’s main selling point, to even get listeners to pay attention to their music.

Take Nicki Minaj, for example. Her new cover art for the highly anticipated single “Anaconda,” displayed at the top of the page, screams sex. You can’t deny the Young Money Queen’s sex appeal in this photo. Although, the cover art is raunchy, I want to hear this song. I want to know the reason for using such a risqué photo.

Like Minaj, Rihanna is renowned for her sexiness as much as her music.

Rihanna has definitely left an indelible mark on the music industry as an unforgettable singer who bares it all in her music and her cover art. Her sex appeal is undeniable.

An artist’s cover art can be a tool to both set them apart and give fans a way to connect to their artistry.

Check out more artists in the gallery. It includes cover art from the ’80s, ’90s and 2000s that exhibit exceptional sex appeal. –dana williams
