Tupac Shakur TV Mini-Series in the Works
Tupac Shakur has been the focus of several documentaries and films over the years and now the life and times of Shakur will be brought to the small screen in a new TV mini-series, produced by Quincy Jones III, son of legendary music producer Quincy Jones.
In a recent interview with XXL, Jones, who was close friend of Shakur, explained that the mini-series will focus on the many personalities of the slain rapper.
“If you look at Tupac’s life, he was a politician, he was a musician, and then he was a guy who empowered women,” said Jones III. “We’re gonna do a six-part series documenting six different areas of his life.”
Jones III, who previously worked on the documentary Tupac Shakur: Thug Angel, said that his new project be vastly different from his former Shakur-themed project, thanks to the help of the rapper’s mother, Afeni Shakur.
“It’s a real blessing because for the first time we’ll have access to the family, information and items that only she would have,” he said. “There’s a lot of things that he left behind like notebooks, audiotapes of his meetings, and all kinds of stuff, so it’ll be a totally different look at Tupac because we actually have that access now.”
In the six-part mini-series, Jones will also cover the lighter side of Shakur’s tumultuous relationship with rival emcee, The Notorious B.I.G.
“One [episode] is just on Tupac and Biggie’s friendship,” he said. “You know, there’s a lot of things that people don’t know about that friendship even up until the very last day, things that Tupac was trying to do to mend that relationship. So we’re going to see the side of Tupac that people haven’t seen too often.”
In regards to which channel would be airing the mini-series, Jones III said,“I don’t wanna say for sure yet until we lock that up.”
Jones III’s mini-series seems like it will be a must-see project and another insightful tribute to the beloved late rapper. –nicholas robinson
