Turntable Tuesdays: Loni Swain

LS RO

Loni Swain knows her music.

The versatile Chicago-based radio personality has covered up to four different radio formats, in six markets, and both day and night segments over the course of  her career. For “five hours long and five hours strong,” Chicago listeners are entertained, captivated and inspired by Swain’s hip and charismatic personality as midday host of Clear Channel Media’s heritage urban station, WGCI-FM. She is also a national premium choice fill-in for various Clear Channel Media radio stations across the country.

In addition to her burgeoning radio career, the New Orleans native has nurtured her love for cooking and great food through her recently launched online chocolate candy business, Loni Loo’s (www.loniloos.com).

Proudly proclaiming to have a playlist for every occasion, Swain says her music tastes range from “You’ve got to listen to this!” to “Please don’t judge me!”

For this week’s Turntable Tuesday, she decided to go with five all-around favorites in no particular order.

Here are Swain’s five picks:

1. AWOLNATION – “Sail”
The first time I heard this song, I Shazaam’d it, bought it and listened to it on repeat for a week straight!
Luther-Vandross
2. Luther Vandross – “Never Too Much”
Whatever is going on in my life, I will instantly perk up when I hear this song! Such a sweet sentiment that appeals to my inner hopeless romantic!
rachel
3. Rachel Yamagata – “Even If I Don’t”
I first discovered Rachel Yamagata on the PRIME soundtrack. Her “I Wish You Love” cover was amazing! I had the privilege of seeing her live in Chicago at City Winery and she performed an acoustic version of this song. It instantly became a favorite! Anyone that’s ever fallen in love with the wrong person can relate!
jah cure
4. Jah Cure – “Got This Feeling”
No playlist of mine is ever complete without some reggae! This song is feel good music at its finest! You can’t help but move your body to it. The feelings of new love jump through the speakers on this one.
emeli
5. Emeli Sande’ – “Maybe”
Love her voice and her whole album. I listen straight through and never skip any songs, but this song gets heavy rotation and even repeat status most of the time. Love the melody and the sentiment! I often find myself stuck in indecision between whether I should let go or to try harder in love.
