Imagine if American slaves had been white and the slave masters members of the black ruling class. That concept is explored in Jay-Z and Kanye West’s new video “No Church in the Wild.”

Produced and directed by the High 5 Collective, the unofficial video opens with a white slave running from black slave masters in 1862. The white slave has visible marks on his back from being beaten viciously with a bull whip.

The white slave’s beating stems from him raping or having a sexual relationship with a black woman. During the initial beating, the white slave manages to escape and is captured by his black slave owners in a church. As he is being dragged through the church by a black mob, an enormous cross is visible in the background. The white slave is eventually tied to a tree with a rope around his neck. After a member of the mob kicks a stump from beneath the slave, his feet dangle in the air. A dog looks at his lifeless body as it swings back and forth.

The video’s powerful imagery paints a vivid picture of the disturbing nature of slavery and the lingering effect that the institution has had on race relations in America. Watch the video below and share your thoughts. –amir shaw

Until they stop promoting the n-word, I will see them only as doing things for shock value and to continue lining their pockets.  Black people are not White folks, so why try to make a video where we’re portrayed as the worst of them.  Please!!  We have too much of a rich African heritage to have us portrayed as the White version of people who lynched, whipped, branded, raped, etc. our ancestors for centuries.  Enough already, these Black entertainers are so unimpressive and don’t even understand the importance of empowerment through education and economics. Will this change in our lifetime?

if you really and truly know anything at all about Ye & Jay and their socio-political stance (which is always for the PEOPLE) then you’d understand that they made the video not to show US as White Folks…but so that White Folks are forced to face the reality of the brutality and ON-GOING strife they have caused our people and people of color throughout the world due to their own sick obsession with White Supremacy. It is a very in-your-face…wake-up and do RIGHT kind of video…disturbing to some, perhaps…but that’s the whole point.

As for this comment: these Black entertainers are so unimpressive and don’t even understand the importance of empowerment through education and economics.

Really? Shawn Carter & Kanye West DON’T understand the importance of empowerment via education & economics?  Clearly, you only see them on a very surface and base level. Have you ever really LISTENED to their works…and no, I’m not speaking of radio cuts.  The N-word will always disturb many of us…but at the end of the day, why are you still giving it all of that power and energy in the first place? It’s done. The word is powerless in terms of the way that is was originally used. Hip-Hop took that power away like no other peoples could have done with a word in the history of this country & this global society that still operates via white supremacy.

Let’s stop focusing our attention on successful men of African decent and put our energy on the gazillion other issues affecting our people…and let Jay & Ye continue to do their thing and recognize their lineage for what it truly is…they’re not lining their pockets just to line their pockets…check their politics outside of the ‘limelight’ and you’ll know where they’re at mind, body & soul. Stop looking at them as simple ‘entertainers’ – they’re not.

In these times, NONE of US will EVER be like Marcus, Martin, Malcolm, Che, Chairman Fred Hampton (outwardly), et al…because we saw the end results…so now we communicate and are affecting change at home and globally in other ways…believe that.

They do LOVE US…and some of US just don’t or won’t  see it.

The funny thing is that you have no clue who any of your supposed heroes are, that or you don’t see how recognizing these men completely defeats the entire statement you made about the n word or ;the sick obsession with white supremacy’ etc

      Che? Malcolm?

      Give me a fucking break

Um yeah, whites have been slaves for longer than blacks.  Even in america this is true yet woefully ignored.  There is even evidence that blacks did have white slaves in America.  Of course no one wants to really look at the real issues of classism.  They want to rely on racism because it is easy to judge someone by their appearance.  Well, I have news for you.  Not all white people look alike.
