A spat over $500 led to a murder suicide in Fort Worth, Texas. According to reports by The Fort Worth Star-Telegram, Terry Martin, 48, bought a lottery scratch-off ticket and won $500.

When his live-in girlfriend, Laurice Hampton, discovered that he’d won the money, she insisted that he give her half of the winnings. Martin refused and the two began arguing. At some point, the argument turned violent.

Martin pulled out his gun and shot Hampton in her chest. Martin then turned the gun on himself. Hampton was still alive and able to call 911. She was rushed to the hospital, but she eventually died.

Martin and Hampton had known each other since they were in kids. However, they always had a volatile relationship.

In 2011, Martin was arrested and served one day in jail for assaulting Hampton.
