Police assaulted and arrested 12-year-old’s sister after shooting him to death

New video of the aftermath in the Tamir Rice shooting has emerged. The footage shows police driving up to Tamir Rice, 12, and murdering him at a park in Cleveland.

After Tamir was shot and killed, his 14-year-old sister ran to the scene with the hopes of seeing her brother. However, a police officer slammed her to the pavement and arrested her. There was never an attempt to calm the teen down; the police officer used brute force to subdue a child who had just witnessed the murder of her younger brother.

Moreover, the police showed negligence by never attempting to save Tamir’s life. Nearly five minutes passed before anyone attempted to give the child CPR. In 2012, the officer who killed Rice, Timothy Loehmann, was judged unfit for duty.

The new footage reveals the brutality that police are inflicting on unarmed Black citizens across the nation. It proves, again, that police officers are given too much power to victimize and kill. Along with body cameras for every officer, all police shootings of unarmed people should be handled by a federal court.

A grand jury is currently deciding if the officers involved in Tamir’s death should face charges.
