Sugarhill Gang’s Big Bank Hank dead at 57

Founding member and one third of the classic rap group, the Sugarhill Gang, died today at 2 a.m. Born Henry Jackson, Hank had been suffering from cancer for the past year. Sugarhill Gang released the first rap hit with the 1979 classic, “Rapper’s Delight.” Best known for his line “the Grand Master with three MCs that shocked the house for the young ladies” the group ushered in a new era of American music born from the inner city.

The last two surviving members of the group, Wonder Mike and Master Gee stated “so sad to hear of our brother’s passing. Rest in peace big back.” Jackson was 57 at the time of his death. The classic song, “Rapper’s Delight” can be viewed below:
