‘Today’ show super fan Linny Boyette dies
Linwood “Linny” Boyette, 71, has spent the last 20 years showing up at the Rockefeller Center to stand out on the Plaza supporting “Today” show anchors – greeting cameras with a signature finger pointing. Always wearing a hat – he owns more than 20 – and sunglasses, he arrived at studios as early as 5:30 a.m. Traveling from Bronx to Manhattan, he would pass the time reading the newspaper, drinking coffee and even signing autographs.
A military veteran, he was born in Jamaica, reared in London and moved to New York 50 years ago. While stationed in Europe, he watched the show via satellite.
“My father always reminded me, ‘You’ve got to put on a hat, it doesn’t matter how nice they look or what the weather is, always put on a hat,” he told “Today” last year during an in-studio interview.
He died from complications of a heart attack.
