Tell us about your collaboration with Pat Neely and Family Dollar.

This is super exciting for me because not only am I at the home of celebrity chef Pat Neely, I get a chance to partner with he and Family Dollar on a cool holiday program called “give more, spend less.”

So he’s using all of his skills in the kitchen to create some amazing recipes with everything that Family Dollar offers and I’m using my skills as a style expert to bring a little more kind of excitement to the holiday season using unexpected finds whether they’re gifts or accessories, ornaments for your holiday table or even your holiday entryway. This is the time of year where you want to show off your style and I’m going to show you how to do it for a lot less.

How do you begin decorating for the holiday season?

You know decorating for me starts from the outside in. I love a gorgeous entryway around the holiday season. Your guest in your home they experience all that you put into it from the moment they step to your front door and that first impression should be sparkly and fun. You may not be one to put up a lot of lights up around the holidays so I started by lining the pathway with battery operated LED candles so they have a waxy finish it creates a softer glow a little more sophisticated.

What tips do you have for decorating the exterior of your home?

I’m going to let you in on one of my little holiday style secrets. I love adding a little bling even out front of your home. This is a great little tree that you just pop together in three simple steps. Its cost ten dollars at Family Dollar and then you just drop it together and the glamour begins.

When the trees are affordable as they are at Family Dollar, why only buy one? You can buy extra trees and put them out front, out back, all around the house. These trees are pre-lit and they’re indoor trees but they also work outdoors if it is under a covered entryway and I love the fact that we’re keeping it all in the same color family; touches of green, silver and white make for a more sophisticated holiday entrance.

I also hung these metallic ornaments above the doorway. You won’t believe this, these ornaments were one dollar each and I love the detail there because they catch all the light that’s happening outside of your home and I use 3M command strips so you can do this project in five minutes and peel them off after the holiday season is over. This is a great way to welcome your guest for any occasion, whether daytime or nighttime, and you’ll have the best dressed home in the neighborhood.
