Les Nubians and Zimbabwe’s resident NYC DJ Eddie D., né Eddie Mundondo, gave a live performance at the 2015 “I Am ImageNation” Outdoor Film & Music Festival on Monday, July 6, 2015 at the Marcus Garvey Park Amphitheater in Harlem, NY.

The Paris-born sisters Hélène and Célia Faussart who comprise the Grammy-nominated duo Les Nubians are renowned for their mix of hip-hop, neo soul and African sound. They performed hits like “Makeda,” which garnered them a Grammy nomination, nominations for two NAACP Image Awards and two Soul Train Lady of Soul Awards and a win 1999 win for Best New Artist Group or Duo. They also performed hits from their new album, Africa For The Future.

The featured film, Half of a Yellow Sun, starring Thandie Newton, Chiwetel Ejiofor and Anika Noni Rose, takes two privileged Nigerian sisters and their lovers on a journey through the 1960’s Biafran war. The story is powerful, intensely emotional and, as the response of lovers of the films and readers of the novel written by Chimamanda Adichie around the world has shown, it is a story which can touch everyone’s heart.

This event was done in partnership with the Reel Harlem Film Festival in association with the Reel Sisters of the Diaspora Film Festival and Panla A Taste of Africa Event Series, and was sponsored by the NYC Department of Parks & Recreation.
