The South Side of Chicago closed out the summer festival season on a high note and represented well as 87th Street’s Jesse Owens Park played host to the first annual Southside Soul Festival over the weekend.

Comedian Damon Williams hosted the free event that began with a rousing exhibition by the famed South Shore Drill Team, and featured some of Chicago’s hottest artists including Em Jai, Aniba Hotep & The Sol Collective, V. Holmes’ “Tribute to the Motown Greats,” Noah the Genius, and Class Act Orchestra. R&B superstar Dwele capped off the landmark event with an incredible performance that included him taking selfies with the audience as he belted out hit after hit. In addition to the music, the festival also featured free health screenings, dozens of local vendors, kids activities, and dancing and workout classes.

Sponsored in part by rolling out, Power 92, Soul 106.3, and presented by the Southeast Chicago Chamber of Commerce, the Southside Soul Festival was designed to encourage stability, economic and business development, as well as safer, cleaner communities in which to develop our community’s youth.
