NEW YORK – On a night where President Obama addressed the 20th National Action Network conference, Bill Cosby nevertheless stole the commander in chief‘s thunder when he ripped off an impassioned, unapologetic speech about intergenerational dysfunction and criminality in the black community.

The legendary actor, activist and comedian incited loud and prolonged choruses of “ooohs,” “ahhhs” and applause when he tore into black Christians about their so-called adherence to their faith — all while living in drug-infested, crime-ridden neighborhoods with dilapidated educational facilities and other deplorable conditions.

“You cannot go to the black Muslim neighborhoods and sell drugs. They shut down drug dealers,” Cosby said, comparing Christian and black Muslin neighborhoods. He was inferring to black Muslims being subjected to nationwide vilification despite cleaning up their communities. “They don’t carry guns. That’s a myth. They just walk up with their sunglasses and bean pies and say, ‘Brother you can’t do that here,’ and the drug dealers, even with their guns and rap music, the Muslims run him out of town [and] to the emergency ward.”

Cosby, one of America’s most celebrated comedians ever, then caused the black-tie room full of dignitaries, celebrities and athletes to recoil — some out of shock, others out of appreciation — when he tore off a piece of black Christian hide for doing little to nothing as iniquity and criminality rages around them and swallows up black children.

“There are too many preachers [but] not enough service,“ Cosby began after the roar of shock and applause died down. “Tell me where Jesus would allow drug dealing on the corner? Tell me where Jesus would allow people to shoot guns for no reason, missing and then hitting a child who is paralyzed for life? And we don’t do anything but have a funeral. But let a cop shoot [a black man], and you set his car on fire and burn up the police stations. Contradictions.

“The black Muslims take time to explain who they are, so that by the time the children are 12 years old, male or female, they are proud of who and what they happen to be,” he said.

And, normally, what a man or woman thinks of themselves internally is reflected externally, including the neighborhoods where they live. So look around at yourselves: what do the people in your neighborhood think of themselves?

I am a Christian Pastor, and perhaps it is a good thing for us to hear. If we are to be a light to the world it is imperative that we train and equip those within our congregations to make an impact within our communities. Some are doing it, but perhaps not enough.

There use to be unity amongst the religions as to our communities. What is worse is the child rearig is ridiculous. I have not heard not one sermon about child rearing, cause almost every pastor/preacher/reverand/bishop never teaches out of the book of knowledge Proverbs, spread that word that we all can learn something out of that book that can help our entire community, especially our children that are disrespectful/disobedient!

Mr. Cosby, Im wondering which black church you attend seeing that you got so much to say from the mountian top. chucklzzzzzzzzzz But I do like the comparison to Muslim communities. Now I do have one question. Is the community you are admiring the one you represent? because you did just tell Russell Simmons to ” get the fuck out of my face ” back stage. Is that the difference in community you are talking about or character? …. Can you help me with this? ………

I think he gave the black church a dose of what they need to hear. Ask yourself a question what would Jesus allow drugs to be sold in the community where are babies live and go to school not at all. Jesus and his true follwers would kick ass and take names. Jesus,, would tell the Black churches to get out his face with the con job and self rightous attitudes. These attitudes that have let the community suffer. Jesus would tell the drug dealer “get the fuck out my face”. I hope I have helped you with this?

Now Black Christians are gonna be upset and attack brother Bill instead of understanding that he was calling them to be truly “Christ-like” in word and deed and not just with lip service as we see everyday while our communities are under seige from those in contravention to God and have no shame in being such.

    Good Job Brother Bill
I want to say that we as Muslims better not be thinking we got room to talk. We better get busy in our cities and help clean our people up! They need us now more than ever before You know the time and what must be done! This is our time now it’s the 7th thousand year!

Blk Christians pick and choose what parts of the Bible that they are going to follow. The part of the Bible which deals with child rearing is skipped. One of the reasons why the crime is so bad is that Black community has given in to the government and busy bodies running their households. No discipline in the home causes destruction in the home and community! Black Chrisitans Read the Proverbs!

Bill has never been a political favorite of mine. However, I do believe that he is sincere, and shows a concern for our black youth. I once criticized Bill about giving 20 million dollars to Spellman College, and none to “black youth”. The 20 million went to people who were going to make it in this society regardless whether or not Bill gave that money. On the other hand, that same amount of money would have gone a long way for a few wayward youth. As for the Muslim (Black Muslim inparticular) We will make the difference in our communities. The leadership is a no-nonsense leadership, in Min. Louis Farrakhan. I want to see all Muslims and Christians take responsibility for their communities. Stop the criminnal activities taking place in your neighborhoods. This has been the work of the Nation of Islam all of our existence. There have been some infiltrators posing as Muslims who were breakers of the laws. Under the rise of the NEW NATION OF ISLAM, these imposters will and are dealt with serverely. Min. Farrakhan has offered ZERO TOLERENCE for any infractions regarding the law of the land, and the law of the Nation of Islam. Thankyou Bill Cosby, for your acknowledgement of the NATION OF ISLAM. Go ahead doctor Cosby tell the truth. So many of our people are so afraid of giving the Muslims proper credit.

Bill Cosby is preaching to the christians that can pay $500.00 for a plate…what do you think their neighborhoods look like.  They have no clue what he is talking about.

  • Rmuhamma

I think the hidden item in all this is what is IMPLIED by Br. Bill Cosby. That is, that if Black Muslims and Black Christians got together, then there is no community that could not be cleaned up and made better. Our UNITY will solve 99% of our problems.
