Florida Governor Demands Costly Drug Testing of Welfare Recipients, Result? 98% Pass

Florida Governor Rick Scott was so sure people on welfare use drugs at a higher rate than the general population, he insisted anyone receiving help from the Department of Children and Families be tested.

Under the sponsorship of Republican state Senator Steve Oelrich, a bill was presented to the Florida Legislature that Oelrich said was, “all about trying to break the cycle of drug dependency and using taxpayer dollars to buy illegal drugs.” The bill passed over objections from Democrats.

In July, the state began implementing the policy that requires all applicants for temporary cash assistance to pass four drug tests per year, which the applicant must pay for, before any funds can be disbursed to them. If the applicant tests negative for drugs, they are reimbursed for the test. If the result is positive, they are barred from the program.

The results so far: 98% passed.
The cost to the State of Florida: $178 million annually.

OK, so Rick Scott appears to have been publicly embarrassed after supporting a failed policy that is estimated to cost $5 for every $1 it saves. But, there’s more to the story.

Of course.

This is the same Rick Scott that was forced out of his CEO position at health care giant Columbia/HCA just before the company admitted to 14 felonies and agreed to pay the federal government over $600 million in welfare fraud restitution. This is the same Rick Scott who somehow (his friendship with George W. Bush, perhaps?) avoided any criminal prosecution in the federal indictment against Columbia/HCA, a company Scott co-founded and led.  This is the same Rick Scott who then co-founded Solantic, a chain of urgent care centers that provide drug testing for the workforce.

In his support of the drug testing bill Scott said it is “unfair for Florida taxpayers to subsidize drug addiction.” Apparently it is not unfair for them to subsidize shady politicians and their business partners.

Scott is a conservative Republican billionaire who used $73 million of his own money and the support of the tea party to win his governorship.

In all honesty, I would have supported the drug test too. Not to say I agree with everything else he did, but I think anyone getting gov’t support should be tested randomly and if they fail, all support ceases.

I live here in FL and I’m glad 98% PASS; some people do not want to be on this goverment assistant, most of them are going to college trying to make a honest living,..of course theres a group just will live on goverment assistant til they die, not trying to better themselves and of course Rick Scott was targetting the Blacks, and I’m glad of the out come, all Blacks do not do drugs…I wonder what he’s up to now:(

First of all it’s not hard to pass a drug test go to this website http://blog.ddetox.com/.  A true drug test is without warning.  Here in Las Vegas when you come to work,  you are asked to go to a private clinic and be back in 1 1/2 hours.  No time to detox.  I’ve seen more people fired because they’ve had no warning.  These clinics have you take everything out of your pockets, go into a bathroom where there is no handle on the faucets  all water in the toilet is dark blue.  That’s why so many people get fired.  In the general public 20% of the public is using something as we speak.  These are stats from the CDC http://www.cdc.gov/nchs/data/hus/2010/061.pdf

I read a news article years ago about drug abuse in the United States.  According to this article, when it comes to Black and White Americans, male and female, the Black Female is the LEAST LIKELY to use drugs. I have also read RECENT articles stating that Black Females who attend college are graduating from many institutions of higher learning at a higher rate than even White males.  In other words, Black women graduate more AND use less drugs.  Our people just need a fair chance to get work and live like everyone else.

Many assistance programs don’t cater to men unless they are raising children.  Therefore, it seems as if Rick Scott set out to target Florida’s Black families and children and got caught up in his 178 million dollar LIES and propaganda.  He obviously doesn’t read a lot.  A little research should have alerted him to this fact.

Hopefully, other states will NOT try to emulate this unintelligent, lying fool.  Human welfare programs are not taking America to the poor house.  CORPORATE WELFARE is the problem.  The research and numbers have proven this fact over and over.

Aww, look at the skin-head..  Lets be 4 real, white men Hate all Blacks.  Men and women so you know they don’t care about your kids.  Welfare was created for white women because of sorry white men.  Dads, husbands even their brothers commited all types of crimes against white females from incest to child murder.  But with the Womens Rights Movement it put white women in positions of power faster than any black man could ever I Have a Dream of. This country was built on slave labor and a white mans lie this countries wealth is backed by Gold,  bullsugar it’s because we have more big guns than you and we will use them ask Japan
