Whenever there is a crisis in Black America, the mainstream media turns to Black talking heads such as Rev. Al Sharpton, Cornel West and others. But the one person conspicuously absent is the voice that speaks for millions of Black Americans in this country. That person is the Hon. Min. Louis Farrakhan, the leader of the Nation of Islam who has been unflinching in speaking truth to power in America. Black politicians have been careful to distance themselves from his rhetoric and harsh message about the state of the Black man in America because of their fear of being labeled an anti-Jew or a Black radical race baiter but this fear is misplaced. There is no Black political pundit who is ready to ally themselves with the message of Farrakhan despite the truth he espouses in packed churches and meeting halls across the country.

In fact, it is safer for media to ignore the message of Min. Farrakhan or otherwise lose lucrative advertising dollars from large White-owned corporations. What does this say about the state of Blacks’ consciousness? Have we become “niggarized” like Dr. Cornel West stated recently? Most recently, Min. Farrakhan has been on a whirlwind tour of Black cities delivering a message of awakened consciousness and warnings to Black Americans regarding the racist killings of nine Black members of Emmanuel AME Church by accused killer Dylann Roof. Farrakhan has stated that it is not only the Confederate flag that is at issue, but also the American flag when it comes to a symbol of oppression of Blacks in this country.

Min. Farrakhan recently stated, “We need to put the American flag down. Because we’ve caught as much hell under that as the Confederate flag.  White folks march with you because they don’t want you upsetting the city, they don’t give a damn about them nine…When the police took suspected shooter Dylann Roof to Burger King they were saying ‘You did a good job. Kill all them N-Words’…I don’t know what the hell the fight is about over the Confederate flag. We need to put the American flag down. Because we’ve caught as much hell under that as the Confederate flag… Who are we fighting today? It’s the people that carry the American flag.”

Do you agree with Farrakhan or should we reject this message in the spirit of forgiveness?
