prophet 2012 Bishop James T. Johnson

What inspires you to show up at work every day?
I am inspired knowing that each day brings about a change for advancement, because nothing stays the same as long as you are pushing forward for better progress.

How did you determine your career path?
I have always loved to entertain people and use my voice to minister the Gospel. [I] was called by God.

What other industries connect to your career choice?
Motivational speaking, book writing, financial teaching and behavioral teaching are four very important things and they pertain to my industry.

Describe the skill sets that are essential to future business leaders and innovators.
I think and know that education is one main thing that we as God’s people need to be educated [whether] in the school system, one way or another. Computer knowledge is a must in this society. We are a World Wide Web generation and we will always be that from here on out, or until something else is invented. Trust me, God is always improving his people — if someone believes it or not. Entrepreneurship is necessary. We need to teach God’s people and motivate the next generation, the up-and-coming young people, and the importance of owning your own business. Also, being reasonable in helping others to accomplish their goals in life. If the people have no vision, there will be no future businessmen and women. Our children will have no one to look up to as far as a positive successful role model in the business world.

How do you set goals and evaluate your success?

My methods are writing down my goals and I carry them around in my wallet so I can read them daily. It reminds me where I’m going. I evaluate my success [based] on how many people I can help reach their goals in life, and that makes me happy. Love and peace — nothing can beat it.

Who do you consider peers in your field? Who is setting a great example of best practices?
Bishop George D. McKinney, Bishop T.D. Jakes, Les Brown, Tony Robbins, and Zig Ziglar.

It’s the only way to get great wisdom and knowledge.

Describe the voice of success that you hear in your head.
The voice says never, ever give up.

Community success based on what you do in the community means what to you?
It means that I am moving forward in God’s plan for his people.

A great role in my life — can’t do without it — makes it a lot easier.
