Sen. Michelle Obama? Speculation builds

Before she became the first lady of the United States, Michelle Obama was a well respected lawyer. Her intelligence and commitment to issues were further solidified when her husband became president of the United States. But major media is speculating that Michelle Obama could actually follow in the footsteps of former first lady, now Senator, Hillary Clinton.

Multiple polling data has shown that in the 2016 Illinois Senate race against incumbent Republican Mark Kirk, Michelle Obama could win.

Obama has not shied away from any political fights. In true Chicago fashion, she took on all comers in a recent New York Times Op-Ed piece regarding her school lunch campaign. Her activism and physical fitness has the far right calling her “Moo-Chelle” as their best shot against this modern day black warrior queen. In December of 2012, the Public Policy Polling survey stated “If Michelle Obama decided she wanted to follow the Hillary Clinton route once her husband leaves office in 2016 and go to the Senate, she’d have the upper hand on Mark Kirk. She leads him 51/40 in a hypothetical head to head. Kirk’s approval numbers are OK with 34 percent of voters approving of him to 19 percent who disapprove. But those numbers are no match for the first lady, who’s seen positively by 60 percent of voters to 33 percent with a negative one.”

Obama has raised money and political capital with her years inside the Washington power elite. As speculation builds, the first lady has never publicly indicated any desire to seek public office.
