A high school senior has faced punishment for publishing a cryptic message in the school’s yearbook. According to WSB-TV in Atlanta, the student spelled “Back That A– Up” using the periodic table.

The full message read, “When the going gets tough just remember to Barium, Carbon, Potassium, Thorium, Astatine, Arsenic, Sulfur, Uranium, Phosphorus.”

The teenager revealed that she wanted her message to encourage her classmates to start over and try again when things became difficult.

However, school administrators at Mundy’s Mill High School found out about the message last week and punished the senior. She was given in-school suspension, banned from participating in the annual senior walk and she will not be able to give an inspiring speech to her classmates during their graduation ceremony.

An overall good student, the senior served as class vice president, was a member of the Beta Club, and a member of Students Against Destructive Decisions.

School administrators may have overacted to the cryptic message by prohibiting her from speaking at graduation. The student’s mother will meet with the principal and superintendent next week to discuss the matter.
