Some people just never learn. And if they do learn, they have to do so the hard way.

LaQuanda Newby, 25, a Virginia mother of two is currently facing three counts of contributing to the abuse of a child after leaving her two kids inside a hot car while at the Henrico County courthouse Monday, June 8.

According to a Virginia news station, Newby was in the process of turning herself in for a previous instance of leaving a child unattended in a hot car.

On May 26, Newby was said to have left a child in her car while going shopping in a local Sam’s Club. Upon being dispatched to the scene, police found Newby standing by her car and were unable to arrest her because they had not witnessed the alleged crime. Instead, the officers swore out a warrant if Newby promised to later turn herself in.

Police said that when Newby went to turn herself in on Monday, she left her two kids, 6 and 1, in the car again in the courthouse’s parking lot. Though unable to say for sure how long the children were left unattended in the car, surveillance footage shows it was for more than a hour with the car windows closed and temperatures well into the 90s that day.

Newby was booked and denied bond.

The kids were placed in the custody of their father.
