Police in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma arrested Officer Daniel Holtzclaw on seven charges including rape, forcible oral sodomy and other sexual assault charges. Holtzclaw worked in the predominantly black Springlake division of Oklahoma City. Law enforcement authorities have stated that Holtzclaw preyed specifically upon black women.

Police have stated that their initial investigation covers a period of four months. It is during this time that Holtzclaw is alleged to have raped at least seven black women. Police Chief Bill Citty stated at a press conference on this past Thursday that the officer was placed on immediate administrative leave and an investigation was launched. The information leading to the arrest occurred on June 18 when police received a complaint from a black female victim. The victim stated that Holtzclaw forced her to perform sexual acts during a traffic stop.

Citty stated, “We received a complaint and also uncovered a number of other individuals females that had experienced the same thing with this officer. All of his victims were black females, and they range in the ages of 34 to 58. Right now I’ve identified seven women, six of whom we’ve received statements from and one where are still attempting to get statements for, so you have seven total over a period of five or six months. We kind of anticipate there might be more victims out there. We started by looking at some other things and traffic stops that he had made. Started contacting other females that we know he had stopped at that period of time.”

Ofc. Holtzclaw has been on the OKC police force for three years.

Police also stated that a complaint was made against Holtzclaw several months ago, but they were unable to confirm any crime at that time. Holtzclaw is expected to face charges of rape by instrumentation, sexual battery and indecent exposure. He is now being held at the Oklahoma County jail with a bond of $5 million.
