Snoop Dogg to Star in Sitcom About Pimp

Snoop Dogg is back at it again. No, it’s not music or “rolling trees.” After a brief hiatus from the small screen, Snoop, one of hip-hop’s most applauded funny men, is making his return to TV, starring in a new family oriented sitcom.

According to Deadline, Snoop has teamed up with veteran sitcom producer Don Reo for the multi-camera family sitcom, starring in the leading role as the father of the series. The as-yet-untitled series is being developed by Warner Bros TV but has yet to be shopped to networks. This will be the second time Snoop has teamed up with Reo, having previously worked with the producer while appearing in an arc on the canceled Fox sitcom “Brothers,” starring Michael Strahan and Darryl “Chill” Mitchell. Snoop’s previous TV work also includes his own E! reality show, “Snoop Dogg’s Father Hood,” which showcased the Doggfather at home raising his brood.

Though Snoop will soon be flexing his comedic muscle for TV, he’ll also be taking a dramatic turn in a new biopic, The Legend of Fillmore Slim, according to Deadline.

In the film, Snoop will perform the titular role of Fillmore Slim, a famous blues singer and guitarist who was also a well-known pimp in San Francisco in the 1960s and ’70s.

“This film will span decades, from Slim’s emergence as a musician, to his fascination with the fast life, through his years of incarceration and his redemption,” said screenwriter Alan Ames.

Wayne Anderson will co-write the screenplay with Shelly Liebovitz acting as the film’s executive producer. Pre-production on the film begins in September.

Considering Snoop’s musicality, slick pimp persona and signature slicked back hair, we’re sure he’ll be a perfect fit to play a man known as “The Pope of Pimping.” –nicholas robinson
