Hope Solo and Jerramy Stevens

Is it possible to prevent a train wreck with the caboose going full speed? That’s the question this writer posed upon hearing the news that U.S. women’s soccer team goalie and two-time Olympic gold medalist Hope Solo married her boyfriend of two months, former Seattle Seahawks tight end Jerramy Stevens following a court appearance for allegedly hitting her. Stevens was arrested on Monday, Nov. 12 at 3:45 a.m. at his home in Kirkland, Wash., a suburb of Seattle. On Tuesday, he was released without conditions because the Kirkland Municipal Court judge didn’t find probable cause to hold him, despite the fact that when police arrived, Solo had nursed a cut on her elbow, there was evidence of a fight in the bedroom and there was blood on Stevens’ shirt. Solo, who won gold at the 2012 Summer Olympic Games, was uncooperative with authorities.

Stevens has a history of arrests including assault with a deadly weapon (1998), sexual assault (2000; he was later cleared), reckless driving (2001, 2003), suspicion of a DUI (2007) and felony battery (2011). He was released from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2010 after his arrest for possession of marijuana with intent to sell.

Solo’s teammate, Jillian Loyden, posted this message on Twitter: “Happy to witness such an amazing celebration of real love #selflesslove #fewandfarbetween,” which leads us to believe the couple followed through with their original plans to tie the knot.
