Jason Collins has certainly been breaking ground for the LGBT community all year long as he not only became the first active NBA player to come out as gay during his time as a free agent, but also later became the first openly gay player to be signed by a team when he was offered a contract by the Brooklyn Nets. Now, after a stream of media coverage and honors, Collins is being honored by Logo TV in their new “Trailblazers” special.

According to NewNowNext, the one-hour “Trailblazers” special will honor activists, celebrities, politicians and personalities who are shifting the cultural mindset in favor of the LGBT community and showing diversity and success within the community as well.

Besides Collins, other honorees include “Orange Is The New Black,” which features transgender superstar Laverne Cox, Windsor v. United States plaintiff Edie Windsor and attorney Roberta Kaplan.

“It is an honor to be included in the company of Edie Windsor and Roberta Kaplan in Logo’s celebration of our progress towards LGBT equality,” Jason Collins said in a statement. “We are proof that the actions we make, big or small, can have a positive, global impact on our community.”

Also in attendance will be Tegan and Sara, A Great Big World, Against Me! front woman Laura Jane Grace and ex-NFL player Wade Davis. Special guest appearances will also be made by Jared Leto, Kylie Minogue, Ariana Grande, Rita Ora, Iggy Azalea, Tyler Glenn, Mary Lambert and other celebrities.

“Trailblazers,” which coincides with the 45th anniversary of the Stonewall Riots and the one-year anniversary of the Supreme Court ruling to strike part of the Defense of Marriage Act, will air on Thursday, June 26. – nicholas robinson
