Caron Butler played an intricate role in helping the L.A. Clippers reached the second round of the NBA Playoffs. One year after suffering a season ending injury while with the Dallas Mavericks, Butler returned to have one his best seasons as an L.A. Clipper.

Butler recently sat down to speak with rolling out magazine about the NBA Playoffs and the importance of Father’s Day.–amir shaw

While playing in the Western Conference, you got a chance to face the Oklahoma City Thunder on several occasions. Do you have an idea on the best way to defense the Thunder?
It’s really tough and if I had the answer, we’d still be playing and probably competing for the title this year.  They got a three-headed monster in Russell Westbrook, Kevin Durant, and James Harden.  They also have great role players and guys that can do great things when given the opportunity.

They got great system players, as well as a great system established over there and they also have good paint defense in Ibaka and Perkins. Those guys can really control the paint, rebound the ball, and defend.

What are your thoughts on the OKC Thunder vs. Miami Heat matchup?
It’s kind of tough to go against Miami.  Dwyane Wade and LeBron James will perform at an extremely high level. I think they will beat OKC Thunder in a series.

What does Father’s Day mean to you?
It means everything to me. Growing up without a father, and now being a father of five, it really means a lot.  It gives me an opportunity to reflect on everything that I missed out on and then everything that I’ve been given.  Everything I didn’t receive when I was a kid, I try to give as a father and I’m just truly blessed. To be able to reflect on that day and spend time with my kids and my family is one of the best feelings in the world.

You do a lot of charity work in the community. What will you be working on this summer?
One of the main things I’m doing this summer with my Caron Butler Foundation is influencing people to stay healthy.  My grandmother had a kidney transplant and people are having fitness and health issues from bad dieting and basically eating recklessly.

We’re trying to influence them to eat right, get on the bike, exercise more and take care of yourself.  Another thing that we’re doing is the annual bike brigade and fitness challenge.
