NFL puts smackdown on Beats By Dre headphones

This past weekend, word came down that the National Football League agreed to an exclusive deal with Bose headphones that will effectively prohibit its players from being seen with the popular Beats By Dre headphones.

While not completely unheard of, the new guidelines put players such as Seattle Seahawks’ cornerback Richard Sherman and San Francisco 49ers’ quarterback Colin Kaepernick in a interesting position as both are under contract with Beats and have appeared in national commercials for the Apple owned company.

According to Jasmine Watkins of Sporting News, the new deal restrictsother headphone usage including preseason training camps, practice sessions, game day, postgame interviews, and it remains in place until 90 minutes after the game has ended.”

Bose is hopeful the move will boost their lagging market share in the premium headphone market as it currently captures 22 percent in comparison to Beats’ 61 percent.

Amazingly, the NFL is not the first major sports league to implement a ban of the Beats brand.

Fédération Internationale de Football Association aka FIFA attempted to ban Beats just before the 2014 World Cup in Brazil but some of its star plays defiantly wore them anyway.

The NFL ban goes into effect immediately.
