On the second day of Black History Month, Russell Wilson entered the sports history book becoming the second black quarterback to win a Super Bowl.

Wilson led the Seattle Seahawks to 43-8 victory over the Denver Broncos in Super Bowl XLVIII. He was one of only five black quarterbacks to ever start in a Super Bowl. In 1988, Doug Williams led the Redskins to a victory over the Broncos and became the first black quarterback to win the big game.

Steve McNair, Donovan McNabb, and Colin Kaepernick are other black quarterbacks to start in a Super Bowl.

Wilson threw two touchdowns and finished the game with a superb passer rating of 123.1.

As I scanned the articles about this awesome QB, all I saw were comments saying that his wife looks like an actual Sea Hawk! Come on folks, not every man marries for looks, maybe she’s really good to him, ok. I just congratulate him that all his hard work on the field paid off this year!

There was little talk of this in big media and espn said nothing about it. Wilson didn’t talk about it. But I am old enough to remember when sports commentators openly said that blacks would never be quarterbacks as they lacked the requisite ‘leadership’ and analytical skills to succeed. Even after Doug Williams won the Super Bowl, there were questions about his intelligence. Still, black quarterbacks are described as athletic or read-option, ignoring the IQ firepower Wilson, Kaepernick and RG3 bring to the table. Very proud of Wilson and the way he has handled his professional career.
