Maybe it is wiser — and financially beneficial — to stay in college for more than one year. As we look over the list of the richest players who participated in the NCAA tournament, most of them stayed at their respective schools for at least three years and may have even gone the entire four.

Of course, there are some exceptions to the rule. LeBron James, Kevin Garnett and Kobe Bryant bypassed college and went straight to the pros from high school.  All of them are worth in access of $100 million each; however, these are rare, once-in-a-generation type players. The others on this list learned the fundamentals of the game, became perennial all-stars, got maximum contracts and then invested wisely during and after their playing careers. Their balance sheets reflect this.
