Washington Redskins’ Alfred Morris Drives a $1,300 Sedan

Alfred Morris, a starter for the Washington Redskins, must have been taking notes from financial experts Suze Orman and Lynnette Khalfani-Cox because the sixth-round draft pick is quite thrifty.

The running back signed a $2.22 million deal for four years, plus a $154,000 signing bonus. In his first year, he will make $390,000. But, here’s the kicker. He still drives his 1991 Mazda 626 to work, in spite of his big fat paycheck.

He’s quoted on The Redskins Blog, “It has some sentimental value to it now. It just keeps me grounded [about] where I came from and all the hard work for me to get to this point. So that’s what helps me.”

The Mazda is fully loaded with cloth seats, power steering, a tape deck, and an AM/FM radio. –yvette caslin

That’s a smart brotha. His salary is actually on the low end of NFL pay these days. But, even though, it sounds like he’ll still be holding on to his money long after his career is over. Unlike so many professional ball players with multimillion dollar yearly salaries.
