Angela Bassett to direct Whitney Houston biopic

Premiere of Lionsgate's "Tyler Perry's Meet The Browns" - Arrivals

Two years following the death of iconic singer Whitney Houston, Lifetime has decided to dive in with her biopic.

Directed by Golden Globe Award-winning actress Angela Bassett, the made for TV film is scheduled for release in 2015.

According to Lifetime, the film will center around Houston’s turbulent relationship with her singer-songwriter ex-husband Bobby Brown from the time they fell in love to the very public decline of their union.

While the film titled “Whitney Houston,” has yet to be cast, we expect Lifetime and Bassett to bring in the cream of the crop for the production.

Bassett comments on the pressure she feels to deliver saying …

“I have such regard for both Whitney’s and Bobby’s amazing talents and accomplishments; and I feel a responsibility in the telling of their story,” said Bassett. “Their humanity and bond fascinates us all. I’m beyond excited to have this opportunity to go behind the camera and into their world.”

Although Bassett has made a career of delivering dynamic performances in front of the camera, in a number of black films including Waiting to Exhale and the Lifetime production “Betty & Coretta co-starring Mary J Blige, she may find a challenge in directing such a highly anticipated film. Do you think Bassett can deliver?
