While ABC hasn’t been the most successful when it comes producing black family sitcoms, the network has decided to get their feet wet again, with a new series starring Anthony Anderson, Laurence Fishburne and Tracee Ellis Ross, titled “Black-ish.”

The new family sitcom, which is due to air on ABC this fall follows Andre Johnson, an upper-middle class black man with a great job, a gorgeous wife, four unique children and a colonial home in the ‘burbs. While the Johnson family seems to have it all together, has success brought too much assimilation to this urban family?

Kenya Barris, one of the shows writers commented on the pilot.

“I decided to do this project when I looked up and realized that everywhere I go, I’m constantly the fly in buttermilk … I’m usually the black guy at work. We’re the black family in the neighborhood. My kids are basically the black kids at school. I think it’s kind of a situation of, be careful what you wish for. It’s almost in like moving on up, I’ve sort of priced myself “out” of being black.”

“Black-ish” will air Wednesdays at 9:30 p.m. EST|8:30 p.m. CST this fall on ABC! Will you be watching? – ruthie hawkins/@ruubabie
