University of Chicago Medical Center’s Susan D. Peters Goes Back to Africa
“Being a revolutionary is deciding what is best for you, your family your community and doing it,” says Susan D. Peters, manager of community relations for the University of Chicago Medical Center in the Office of Community Affairs.
Years ago, Peters decided to go back to Africa, and lived in Liberia with her family for 11 years. Peters tells of her African awakening in her riveting book, Sweet Liberia: Lessons from the Coal Pot.
Peters received her Bachelor of Arts with a concentration in marketing from DePaul University, and she is a major force behind the Medical Center’s life-changing Urban Health Initiative, an organization that seeks to improve the health of underserved Chicagoans.
