colma: the musical

Based on the bestselling A running joke in Colma is that the dead outnumber the living. This suburb of San Francisco is known for its gravesites and “Daly City fog.” It’s also the epicenter of Richard Wong’s feature film debut, a witty, refreshing independent musical. The story centers around three friends, Billy (Jake Moreno), Rodel (writer H.P. Mendoza) and Maribel (L.A. Renigen). The trio has just graduated from high school and they don’t know what they want to do. Many of the movie’s songs are memorable, but the trio is humorously listless as it performs them. This is actually a break-into-song musical that owes something to the slacker aesthetic. –forrest green III
