bridget weems - business know-how

As 2008 sees unemployment rates continue to rise and job seekers scrambling to secure careers in their preferred fields, more and more Americans find themselves in dire need of the services provided by Bridget Weems. As program assistant in the Career Center at Cuyhoga Community College (Tri-C) Eastern Campus, Weems offers résumé and interviewing workshops for student job seekers.
A Tri-C and Cleveland State graduate with degrees in communications, Weems grew accustomed to providing counseling and awareness programs during her days at the Free Clinic of Greater Cleveland where she offered patients additional information about various health concerns.
Much like visitors at the clinic, Weems says the average person walking into the career center comes in with misconceptions that can skew their understanding of what’s fact and fiction.
“[People] don’t understand that their résumé should speak to the job they’re seeking,” says Weems. “If someone is looking at a résumé, [he] should know exactly what [the applicant is] seeking.”
Being a loyal Tri-C graduate who’s dedicated to helping others achieve financial security, Weems says the most rewarding aspect of her job is seeing other former students attain the job of their dreams. She warns that before they get the glory, they must work through the grit.
“The toughest thing to get through is the dedication to write a résumé,” she says. “Just be willing to change and work hard, because it’s your life.” -gavin philip godfrey
