Michael Jackson says no to Family Reunion

Michael Jackson says no to Family Reunion

The
First Family of Music will have to continue on without its most
celebrated attraction. Jermaine Jackson announced that the Jacksons,
according to the New York Times,
were planning a concert tour in 2009 that would include
ultra-successful sister Janet. Michael Jackson, the most talented,
eccentric and talked about member of the Jackson musical clan turned up
his reconstructed ivory nose at the prospect of reuniting with his
brothers for a new album and concert tour. But Mike, who produced the
greatest selling album the world has ever seen, took the air out of the
tires before this musical engine could even trek down the road.

“My
brothers and sisters have my full love and support, and we’ve certainly
shared many great experiences, but at this time I have no plans to
record or tour with them,” says Jackson, the architect of the
multimillion selling albums Off the Wall, Thriller and Bad.
“I am now in the studio developing new and exciting projects that
I look forward to sharing with my fans in concert soon.”

Michael Jackson says no to Family Reunion

You wonder where this resolve was after Jackson’s Thriller
album detonated on the scene in December 1982. But after the videos,
the Moonwalk, the Grammys and the invitation to the Reagan White House,
something happened: The Jackson brothers’ subsequent album and
tour, Victory, flopped amid
sophomoric songs, internal bickering, lawsuits, and overpriced concert
tickets. Michael later told reporters he had no choice but to go on
that ill-fated 1984 Victory Tour because the family voted on it. The
entire family would soon come to regret that vote. The tour was
overshadowed by Prince’s Purple Rain
movie and tour as well as the emergence of Madonna as a certified pop
princess. The Jacksons – with and without Michael – would
never become a relevant musical commodity again. – terry shropshire
