The Inaugural Purple Ball brings Hollywood to DC

On a day in which excitement overtook the entire country, the
evening hours promised to be just as electric and fast paced as all the
events that preceded it. The Purple Ball was a swank inaugural party
with a very specific and important meaning for our community. This $500
– $2,000 per ticket event, sponsored by Moet & Chandon was also a
benefit for the United Negro College Fund and a shining example of how
multiple communities can win when they work together.

Hollywood
A listers including Ed Harris, Ashley Judd, Patricia Arquette, Josh
Lucas, Kate Walsh and many more were members of the host committee.
Their commendable efforts were further supported by other celebrities
including Grammy Award winning musician Herbie Hancock, actor Clifton
Powell, and actor/comedian David Allen Grier. UNCF president and CEO
Michael Lomax was on hand to thank the attendees for their
contributions to the organization. Rolonda Watts, a former talk show
host and a Spelman graduate, who was once Ms. UNCF stated that she is
excited about th prospect of spending her adult life helping other
young women to attend college.


“The Purple Ball
is an incredible cause and we are delighted to be associated with it
and the United Negro College Fund,” said Moet & Chandon’s U.S.
business director, Gabrielle Schooley. Entertainment for the evening’s
festivities included Peter Cincotti and Il Divo.
