Tyrese Says Will Smith Changed His Life

Lately, singer-actor Tyrese Gibson, who recently released the self-help book, How to Get Out of Your Own Way, has been known as a source of knowledge and inspiration for his vast audience of Twitter followers and readers. But now Gibson is revealing that his source of inspiration is fellow actor Will Smith, whom he claims changed his life.

In a recent interview with popeater.com, Gibson professed that Smith has been his mentor for years now, helping him to find a greater sense of security and belief in himself.

“He is every bit my mentor and friend. He always makes time to talk about whatever I’m thinking about or what I can’t figure out on my own,” said Gibson. “I can’t really compare him to anybody else in my life. He believes in me more than I believe in myself. It created another level of belief in myself that wasn’t there before.”

As Gibson explains, the first life lesson that the veteran mogul taught him was to improve his life by improving the kind of people he surrounded himself with.

“The first thing he dropped on me was you can often tell how far your life and career will go based on the five people you spend the most time with, so I had to really sit back and really marinate on that, ” said Gibson. “So I said, ‘So if I have a problem with my life, I should have a problem with the people in my life?’ He was like, ‘Yes, exactly.’ ”

“So that’s when the mission began to better my surroundings and keep everybody around me sharp because it’s very easy to get lackadaisical and have people that work with you and for you to just go through the motions,” added Gibson.

  1. The advice is very true. When I was younger I was told birds of a feather flock together. Wherever they fly you follow because your feathers flap the same. Choose friends cautiously and reevaluate who’s around you often. True friends add valueto your life they don’t diminish your personal worth. True friends can see what’s in you and encourage you to get there while others can only see where you’re going based on what you tell them. In essence some people are artificial and superficial stay away from them.

  2. Will has inspired me and I haven’t even met him! I look at his life and accomplishments and think “that’s what I want for myself in business”. I think it’s great advice, the Bible says how can two walk together except they agree!
