Killer Mike Reconciles With Big Boi

Five years ago, things seemed to be headed for the worst between Killer Mike aka Mike Bigga and friend and musical mentor Big Boi, when the two began to feud following Mike’s disenchantment with the music industry. Now, years later, the two have patched things up and Mike is sharing details about how the two came to be friends and collaborators, once again.

In a recent interview with MTV News, Mike explained that following the feud and his departure from Big Boi’s Purple Ribbon label, he and Big Boi began a three-phase reconciliation in 2008 that began when Big Boi’s son, Bamboo, convinced his father to work things out with Mike.

“My children love him, his children love me, so it’s kinda hard to stay an a–hole when my children are telling me, ‘Don’t be an a–hole, dad,’ and his kids was [sic] telling him that,” Mike explained.

As he explains, phase two of the reconciliation was led by Atlanta hip-hop journalist Maurice Garland, who helped the two to, once again, bond over their love of music.

“He got [Big Boi and I] together, and we started listening to each other’s album, and I was like, ‘S—, I gotta step it up,’ ” Mike recalled. “That’s when I went back in to record PL3DGE.”

Finally, phase three was courtesy of Big Boi himself, who reached out to Mike via his Twitter page.

“He just hit me out on Twitter like six, seven months ago — just outta nowhere like, ‘Call me,’ ” Mike said.

After a quick check to make sure it was indeed Big Boi who sent the tweet, the two were soon back to performing their 2005 hit song “Kryptonite” together again, just a a couple of days later at Club Obsessions.

Since their reconciliation, the two have begun working on music together again with Big Boi appearing on Mike’s “Ready Set Go (Remix)” in March. In February, Big Boi and Mike announced they were forming a group together along with fellow Atlanta rapper and Maybach Music signee Pill.

“We’ve been in the studio knocking s— out, talking every few days,” said Mike, adding that the name of the group is still under wraps, for now. “Big has a name, but he’s holding on to it,” Mike said. “I’ve assigned him [the role of] group leader.”
