Obama vs. Romney: The Social Media War to the White House

TWITTER:

Barack Obama

Again, no surprises here: President Obama’s campaign account, @BarackObama, has nearly 15 million followers, making him one of the most followed individuals in the world. The fact that Obama recognized social media’s immense power to impact and influence early on, gave him a head start over anyone else in politics, Romney included. The page also prominently features links to other relevant accounts, such as @MichelleObama@JoeBiden and @Obama2012 — the latter of which is the official Twitter account of the re-election campaign.

 Mitt Romney

@MittRomney has a fraction of the followers Obama has, but 500,000 is still impressive and is sure to grow exponentially as the general election nears. However, Romney is not nearly as savvy a user of Twitter as the Obama camp is, only tweeting out sporadically and sometimes going days between informational updates. That is sure to change, however, now that he is the unofficial GOP nominee. The Romney Twitter account has actively been attacking Obama policies for months
