Colorado Theater Attack Was Planned for Months, Authorities Say

As the investigation of the Colorado movie theater shooting continues, authorities have said that the attack appears to have planned in advance, CNN reports.

However, officials have not speculated about the motive of suspect James E. Holmes, the 24-year-old who was arrested in the movie theater parking lot on Friday.

In the months before the shooting, Holmes received shipments in preparation for the shooting and to booby trap his apartment, reported USA Today. Deliveries included rounds of ammunition ordered via the Internet.

In the suspect’s apartment, police found wires, trip wires, jars of liquid and ammunition and the dwelling was booby traps, apparently to kill whoever entered it, said Aurora Police Chief Dan Oates, according to the Associated Press.

On Saturday, police went into the apartment after two explosive devices inside were set off, CNN reported. The hazardous materials were removed from the apartment and residents of nearby evacuated buildings have been allowed to return home. Police are still working inside the building where Holmes’ apartment was located.

On Sunday, July 22, 2012, President Barack Obama is scheduled to travel to Aurora to meet with survivors of the shooting, as well as to offer condolences to the families of the victims, reported the Denver Post.

Twelve people were killed and 58 were wounded in the shooting during a screening “The Dark Knight Rises” in Aurora, Colo.

Holmes is schedule to appear in court on Monday morning.
